Summer breeze, makes me feel fine … That’s a line from a classic ‘70s song by Seals and Crofts.
And it’s also what’s been happening in our little corner of the world for the past couple of weeks. Thanks to some unusually dry weather lately, we have had some wonderful cool breezes blowing through.
Now, the thing you need to know is, we’re in central Florida, pretty much smack dab in the middle of the state. We don’t usually get the cooling ocean breezes that the coastal areas do. What we do get is the heat, and it’s not uncommon to see temps in the mid-90s this time of year.
This year, however, we have had a blissful string of days where the temperatures haven’t been above the mid-80s. I’ve been able to keep the window beside my desk at work open all day. The humidity has been low, and the afternoons and evenings have seen great, gentle breezes.
Guess what? It does make me feel fine. Whether going for a walk in the neighborhood (maskless at last!), in the back yard with the dogs, or just sitting on the patio, it’s been great.
With the cooler days has come cooler attitudes as well. I can’t vouch for others, but I’m a bit slower to be annoyed or angered these days. It seems like that applies to other folks too, but maybe they’re just reacting to my own chilling out. Even the dogs – both Chihuahua mixes – seem to be just a tiny bit calmer. That could be wishful thinking on my part, though.
It can’t last, of course. This is Florida after all, and real summer is coming soon enough, dragging hurricane season in with it. Before long, maybe even next week, the temps will soar. I’ll have to keep the office window closed and just rely on the air conditioning. At home, the pups will be eager to complete their outside duties as fast as they can and get back inside to the cool air.
But for now, it’s all good.
Hey, that’s not a bad idea for a custom patch, is it?
