Happy New Year! Hope everyone’s excited about all the great new possibilities and ideas that this year is sure to bring!
What?
No, I haven’t lost my marbles, at least not all of them. But it just seems to me that September always feels like the start of a new year, not just a new season.
Think about it. The Labor Day holiday marks the unofficial end of summer, and cooler temperatures (purely theoretical in Florida right now) signify a need to get ready for winter, to bring the harvest in.
C’mon, do you really feel like celebrating a new year in January? Christmas just over, winter just begun, short days, snow, ice and cold temps? Not for me, thanks. I’ll take a lovely fall evening when I can sit outside around a bonfire with friends and celebrate good times.
Autumn also is a good time for reflection, a time for looking back at the pleasures of summer, those family trips to the beach or the mountains. And a time to look forward to Halloween costumes, honoring veterans in November, Thanksgiving of course. And especially if you have kids, it’s time to start thinking about those Christmas presents.
So with that in mind, why not think about some presents for yourself or your significant other as well? You know, that new leather biker jacket you’ve had your eye on for a while? The great vintage denim jacket you saw the other day in the thrift store? Go for it!
