Seems like just about everybody’s into tidying up these days. Call it decluttering, minimalism, “KonMari” (if you must) or just getting rid of the old junk in the basement. Everybody wants to get rid of stuff.
The gurus of the fad encourage chucking the knickknacks and trinkets you no longer value. Toss those old toys your grad student daughter hasn’t played with in the past 23 years! Pitch the turntable that hasn’t worked since 1983! Out with the Beanie Babies you were sure would fund your retirement to the French Riviera!
Sure, it’s a good thing if you can get to the guest bedroom without tripping over Grandma’s old Betamax. (Google it, kids!) But there’s something to be said for collecting things too.
Let’s face it, just about everybody collects something. It’s a part of our nature. Look to the “gatherer” part of our ancient hunter-gatherer days. Once you’ve gathered stuff, presto, you’ve got the start of a collection.
Doesn’t really matter what it is, if you’ve got, let’s say three or more of anything, it’s a collection. It can be books, pens, baseball cards, coins, porcelain figurines, fishing lures, or anything else you want. Hey, some folks are even rumored to collect vacuum cleaners! (Ask my wife about that one – after she shows you her electric mixer collection.)
The thing is, it doesn’t matter what you collect. If it’s something you enjoy, it’s worth keeping around. Don’t get rid of things that have meaning to you.
If you’re looking for something to collect, may we respectfully suggest custom patches? They’ve really got a lot going for them as collectibles.
It’s a breeze to get started. Patches are cheap, especially when compared to say, classic sports cars. Not to mention the fact that they’re a lot more portable, and easier to store. And low maintenance, too. Ever heard of a patch that needed an oil change and a timing belt? Didn’t think so.
Unlike wine, patches don’t need their own cellar. You CAN keep ‘em in the cellar if you want, but you don’t have to. And unlike vintage wine, vintage patches don’t immediately lose their value if you actually use them.
Best of all – and you knew this was coming, didn’t you? – you can easily get others started in patch collecting. Order a batch with your business, school, nonprofit or agency name, and pass ‘em out at conferences, conventions or trade shows. You can boost your brand identity and get someone started in a fun new hobby at the same time!
If you’re thinking about starting a patch collection, or if you want to get your brand out there in the world more, there’s never been a better time to order patches from Custom-Patches4Less.
